The Wennesland Collection
Welcome to the largest collection of Beat Art outside of the United States
The Beat Period in the United States was marked by revolution
against the ideals of the 50's and a search for new forms of expression. A new
generation of artists defied convention and tabus of the time.
A doctor from Kristiansand, Reidar Wennesland, travelled over to San Fransisco and quickly became popular among some of Beat Culture's most well known artists. He lived among them and took pictures and paintings as payment for his professional services.
During the 1970's he donated his collection to Høgskolen i Agder og Kristiansand Katedralskole - The Wennesland Collection.
